There are two public meeting this weekend to find out more about the huge solar farm planned near Camber. Consultation is underway over the hundreds of acres proposed for the South Brooks development, one of several being planned for the Romney Marsh.
- Friday 3 July (4pm to 7pm) – Camber Memorial Hall, Lydd Road, Camber, TN31 7RJ
- Saturday 4 July (11am to 3pm) – Lydd Community Hall, Manor Road, Lydd TN29 9HU
The consultation on the South Brooks Solar Farm runs until 9 July. You can find more details here.
The proposals for solar farms on Romney Marsh were discussed by Folkestone and Hythe Council on Wednesday 24 June. Councillors noted the plans are classed as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, with planning decisions made by the government rather than locally.
Councillors agreed that it was too early to form a council policy on the proposals given the lack of information, deciding to wait until the official planning process begins for each individual site. They were in no doubt about the scale of the planned farms though.
Councillor Tony Hills said, “I’m against solar farms on land which is going to destroy my communities. One giant scheme will surround Old Romney and be very close to Lydd and New Romney. It will change the environment down that neck of the woods completely forever.”
