Periodically the Emergency Services and Local Authorities mount an exercise to test industrial contingencies for the TRADEBE chemical works on the Harbour Road.

The latest one took place between 6pm and 9pm on September 18. Several months in the planning, the event, hosted by TRADEBE saw a deployment of police, fire and ambulance assets supported by the Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive and local authorities.

Contributing to the last, to provide local knowledge, expertise and help with public information was Rye Emergency  Action Community Team (REACT). Team leader Colonel Anthony Kimber was on site throughout observing and providing input on behalf of REACT. After the exercise there were lessons identified that will go into a post event report to influence future handling of incidents at the site.
