Reinstatement of the historic pump in Church Square (formerly Pump Street) is due to start in October, according to Richard Farhall, Rye Town Clerk. In the meantime, it has been temporarily boarded up as the photograph shows. The work, jointly funded by Rye Town Council and the Rye Conservation Society, is being undertaken by Art Joinery, a local firm based in Rye Harbour Road.
Wayne Jones, planning liaison officer for the Society, has been pressing for action for many months and will be “hanging out the bunting” he says when the project is accomplished.
