The second staging of the Winchelsea Beach 10k trail race takes place on Sunday 7 December, with 40-50 runners expected to take part. Although flat, it’s a scenic but quite stamina-sapping course mostly within Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

After a relatively sedate opening, 4kms along the hard track known as The Ridge, runners then make their way back along public and permissive footpaths passing the iconic 16th century Camber Castle on their way to the finish.

January’s inaugural race, which attracted a nice mix of club and non-club runners, was won by Hy Athletic Club’s Stuart Piper in an impressive time of 45.21. The first female finisher was Sabrina Holt (Spearhead Fitness, Bexhill) in an excellent time of 52.27.

All abilities are welcome, and there’s a sweep marshal at the back to ensure that no-one gets left behind.

Race HQ is at Winchelsea Beach Village Hall, with the race starting at 9.30am. Tea and cakes available at the hall afterwards!
