Sonja Coleman and Lisa Howell are off to Portugal to raise funds for the RNLI.
After months of preparation, the time is here for them to start their challenge of walking the 265km ‘Camino’ in Portugal – from Porto to Santiago.

Sonja’s sister, Linda, died five years ago in a freak diving accident which left her family and Linda’s wife, Lisa, reeling with the shock and devastation to their lives. Each year they have completed a challenge on the anniversary of Linda’s death but this year being the fifth anniversary they wanted to do something very special.

Months and months of training were undertaken, and last Sunday Sonja visited RNLI Rye Harbour to meet the crew and to explain why she was doing the walk. It made it all more real for her to meet those for whom she was raiding funds. Crew members turned out in force because they know that these amazing fundraisers are the lifeblood of the success and future of the RNLI: Rye Harbour lifeboat station wishes the pair every success.

The challenge starts on Saturday, September 2 with a 35km walking day, the longest of the challenge, leaving Porto and heading north to Povoa de Varzim, then they continue walking for another thirteen days. They have raised over £2,500 already and it is hoped that people will give generously to this cause.

Sonja said:  “A big thank you to everyone who has supported us and for donating to our chosen charity, RNLI, in memory of Linda – it means a great deal to us. Here’s the link to our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sonja-lisa-lind
