The popular New Beach Club at Pett Level has fundraised and built a ramp into the club to make it more inclusive, and already new members with restricted mobility have joined as members, to enjoy the atmosphere in the club and patio garden at the back.
The club would like to thank the Levelling up Fund, Rother Council, the Lottery Fund and Community Fund for financing this important access addition. They would also like to thank Ross and Russell of R&R Building and Developments for their professionalism and workmanship. Lots more has been planned to improve the front. A working group of volunteers has also been established to improve the inside.

The club is a place well worth paying the membership for. Once joined, one can enjoy good beer, wine and coffee at a reasonable price. There is a small kitchen where staff cook up a great fish and chips lunch and on Friday the place is usually very busy. A vegetarian dish is also available as well as cockles. A new addition is the pool tournament which has now started but any time the pool table is free members can play.
The members are eclectic from all walks of life and areas, local, from Rye and around. One always finds someone to say hello to and Rye Shanty Singers have performed several times in the garden to an appreciative crowd. During one conversation in the garden a young man asked if the reporter knew Jeakes House in Mermaid Street, as he was the new owners’ son.
Whether sitting inside or outside, everyone is friendly, talking to each other even if strangers, exchanging a wealth of information. There is a carpark opposite the club, only for members, which fills up very quickly, especially at weekends.
