August, the height of the holiday season, so perhaps it was inevitable that the Rye Show on August 15 should have been announced by thunder and lightning of near-Wagnerian proportions. It stopped in time for the Show and Seana Lanigan reports on two popular events. The same weekend Britainy Rae watched a sparkling performance of Twelfth Night in the garden of Lamb House. Earlier in the month saw the passing of Dr Richard Bower, a quiet man with an adventurous past, recounted by Biddy Cole. The prestigious Rye Tennis Club Open Tournament took place and Zoe Richmond Watson records the fiercely competitive finals. The International Jazz Festival at the end of the month was previewed By Charles Harkness and Heidi Foster while Kenneth Bird went behind the scenes with a student helping to organise the Rye Arts Festival.
