Pussies branch out into blue

New markets have opened up for pussy hats knitted by local ladies to raise funds for Samara’s Appeal to help refugees in camps along the borders of Syria. Vanessa Savia has kindly agreed to sell the hats from her shop on Lion Street. They cost £10 and all the profits after the cost of the wool go to the charity, Samara’s Appeal.

Just the hat for a demonstration!

Although pink is the classic and original colour of the hats which were first seen at the Women’s March against Trump on January 21, Rye often flouts convention and some gentlemen have opted to go for a blue version.

The hats can be knitted to order if people have particular colour preferences, or fancy a stripe for instance. Please call in at Savia in Lion Street to place your order.

On February 20 a group of pussies made it to the demonstration in Parliament Square, organised to coincide with the debate in the House of Commons about the proposed visit of US president Donald Trump to the UK.

Janet Waddams who organises Rye’s donations to Samara’s Appeal has given details of specific needs for the latest collection. Good-quality clothes can be taken to St Mary’s choir vestry March 4-8. There is an urgent need for new underwear. Shorts and short skirts cannot be used.
