Racing Santas, flying puds

One of the highlights of  “Tales of Old” on Saturday December 10 will be the races in the High Street between 2:15pm and 3 pm. Last year’s Christmas Pudding race (shown above) will be repeated, but there may be more than that to see.

Groups, clubs and individuals take part in these wacky races and the Santa Relay may prove to be the wackiest as this, allegedly, involves each runner acquiring more of Santa’s costume as they race along , and the winning team must complete the course in full Santa gear. A tug of war may also feature as the programme is subject to last-minute changes.

Hopefully the weather will be kind to us as running in snow shoes is not be encouraged.

Older readers may recall a certain winter in the Sixties which just went on and on, and (as a sports editor then) I discovered there are a limited number of indoor sports you can actually write about. . . . and flying Christmas puddings may prove to be just as dangerous as squash balls on Saturday!
