Hotbuckle Productions gave a barn storming performance of Jane Eyre at the Barn Theatre last Friday, May 17.

The Shropshire-based touring theatre company has proved popular in the past and this was their sixth visit to Smallhythe Place. This year’s excellent comic take on Jane Eyre follows their hilariously funny rendition of Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd last year. Next year they continue to adapt classic novels and promise a surprise with another Thomas Hardy classic, Tess Of The D’Urbervilles

But you don’t have to wait until next year to experience the idyllic Barn Theatre. In the coming months they will be performing a range of plays including three from Shakespeare:  Macbeth on Friday May 31, King Lear on Saturday June 1, and Twelfth Night from Wednesday July 24.

For music lovers, there’s the opera HMS Pinafore on Thursday August 29 and Great Expectations The Musical on Saturday September 7.

For the full programme of plays and events at the Barn Theatre go to the National Trust’s website and remember the bar opens at 6pm, giving you plenty of time to have a pre-theatre drink and tour the beautiful gardens of Smallhythe Place.
