Planning officers from Rother District Council have recommended approving the new Aldi supermarket in Rye. The council’s planning committee will make the decision at their meeting on Thursday 12 February.
The news is long awaited – proposals for the new store were first submitted for the site on Winchelsea Road in June 2024.
Providing a low cost supermarket which is also open on Sundays is among the many reasons given for recommending approval say Rother’s planners. “The provision of an anchor low-cost food store will provide residents an alternative option for food shopping, as well as providing a supermarket option on a Sunday, which will also serve the local and wider population and support linked trips.”
The meeting’s agenda suggest considerable conditions are put in place before any work can start.
More details to follow in this week’s Rye News and after next week’s decision.
