After a long winter of planning, the cricket finally got underway on Saturday 18 April, under blue skies and summer-like weather in April. The pre-season fixture wasn’t quite the performance to match the bright weather.

Rye were missing a number of 1st team players and lost to Tenterden by 104 runs. Tenterden were dismissed for 225 in 35.5 overs. Rye gave 7 bowlers the opportunity to shake off early season rustiness, with skipper Harry Smeed 4-27 the pick of the bowlers.

Rye never got going in their reply, only Ben Clifton 35 not out offered resistance as Rye were dismissed for 121. Pre-season continues this Saturday 25 April as the 1st Xl host Walmer CC at 1pm and the 2nd Xl travel to play Crowhurst Park 2nds.

The junior season starts next week with the signing-on night for juniors on Monday 27 April at the Cricket Salts from 6pm to 8pm. The club is running two Under 11 teams, and there is an Under 13 and an Under 16 team. The cost is £80 for the season, which covers 12 practice sessions, club shirt, all match fees and family membership of Rye CC.

On Wednesday 29 April the junior practice sessions commence from 6pm to 8pm at The Salts for Under 11s and 13s. The Under 16 sessions start Friday 1 May at 6pm.

The club held a very successful Quiz Night at The Mermaid last Wednesday 15 April. Thanks to Graham and Tracey Nunn for running the quiz and to the 15 teams who participated and raised £585 towards the fund to manage the Rye Cricket Salts.
