Rye Bonfire Society held another successful fundraising quiz at the Mermaid Inn on Wednesday 13 May. A full house answered questions that were a varied mix of easy, hard and quirky. A good night was had by all, especially the winning team, Children of the Thorn. £503 was raised on the night.

The next quiz is in September with a special guest quiz master. More information on booking a team table will be on social media nearer the time.

Don’t forget the Rye Bonfire Society social and badge day at the Cinque Ports pub on is on Bank Holiday Monday 25 May. It’s a free community event with the chance to meet bonfire members, try your hand at torch making, eat yummy waffles and bop the afternoon away to Sarah G and the other Three. See you there!

Then the week after, a real highlight in the Rye social calendar: Wednesday 3 June sees the fundraising females hosting the Bonfire Society’s Grand Auction, also at the Mermaid Inn. With 100 lots, there really will be something for everyone and the admission fee of £5 includes a glass of wine.

This is the largest fundraiser in the bonfire calendar and is always very popular, especially as there is always some John Ryan Pugwash artwork available. The many lots will be showcased on social media and in Rye News next week.
