Rye’s reputation as one of the South East’s premier food destinations has received another major boost, with The Union, Rye being ranked No 23 in The Good Food Guide’s prestigious list of the 100 Best Local Restaurants in Britain 2026.

The Union Rye

The accolade places the East Street restaurant among the very finest neighbourhood restaurants in the country and recognises its commitment to seasonal cooking, locally sourced ingredients and warm hospitality. The Good Food Guide described The Union as an “easy-going former pub” where diners enjoy inventive, flavour-led dishes in a relaxed setting, adding that locals are “lucky to have such an exemplary neighbourhood restaurant” on their doorstep.

The Union Manager and Executive Chef

James Robinson, manager of The Union, commented, “Being recognised as one of the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Local Restaurants, and to be placed 23rd nationally, is something we are incredibly proud of. As a small, independent restaurant in Rye, it is especially rewarding because this recognition reflects the support of our local community and everyone who chooses to dine with us. Our focus has always been on cooking great food with the best local ingredients we can find, working closely with the fantastic farmers, fishermen and producers around us. Also creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where people genuinely enjoy spending time, and in that respect, this award is also reflection of the wonderful provenance and community we have in East Sussex.

“We think that consistency, attention to detail and a passionate team which cares deeply about what it does every day are what have brought us to this point. We are hugely grateful to our staff, our suppliers and our customers for making achievements like this possible.”
