The Green Waves Festival is proudly presenting its second annual Youth Showcase on August 16 at 6pm at Tilling Green Community Centre. Featuring talented local young people, it is open to the public and is a great opportunity for supporting the next generation of performers.

Headlining the show is Rye’s own circus star Kayla who has been training on aerial hoop for three years. She performed at last year’s event and has since competed in her first competition where she came top of her group. Despite her health challenges and being neurodiverse, aerial hoop offers Kayla freedom and enjoyment – the higher the hoop the greater the fun!

Lowlight Trio

Young musicians are represented by two bands in the show. The Lowlight Trio from Hastings bring fresh energy to the local jazz/funk scene and are already making waves. Mina Maden on bass and guitars, Harley Agyeman on keyboards, and Hana Bolton on drums and vocals bring tasteful phrasing and a modern jazz feel with natural musicality, performing reimagined classics. Rye Youth Zone’s band (Oriana, Jake, Noah and Arthur) have only recently formed and are performing classic blues and rock music in their debut performance. Come cheer them on!

Dyamond Dance troupe

Dyamond Dance, a welcoming and inclusive dance school based in Bexhill-on-Sea will have two dance slots. Their performers are a dedicated group of young dancers who work incredibly hard both in and out of the studio. They love taking to the stage, supporting one another and sharing their passion for dance with the community. We’re sure you’ll enjoy watching them perform!

We also have dancers from Rye Dance studio and space for more young performers on the bill, so if you know of any aspiring local artists please ask them to contact Graham at alohajuggler@gmail.com.

Please come and support our young people twirl, dance, sing and create familiar sounds, fresh voices and a seriously good vibe.
