Last Saturday 25 July, Rye recorded a fourth defeat in a row. In a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, Rye 1st Xl were under strength, as holidays, work and injury took a toll on availability. It saw Rye 2nds having to concede their fixture as numbers were so low.

On a hot and humid afternoon, Rye won the toss and invited St Peter’s to bat. Rye initially made headway as St Peter’s were reduced to 43-4 on what looked a good wicket. However a partnership of 120 between Nimanda Subasunghe 55 and Kiran Nikapota 80 not out changed the game and with 55 extras conceded St Peter’s finished on 272-7 off 45 overs.

In reply Rye struggled with the bat. At 63-5 Ellis Hatter 54 not out and Cornel Swart 33, with support from Reuben Collingwood 23 and Jack Dudly 24 got Rye to 197—8 in 45 overs. The damage had been done by their overseas player Nimanda Subasunghe who took 4-25 to add to his batting exploits.

This Saturday Rye 1sts travel to Buxted Park and the 2nds host Willingdon 1sts in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn.
