DIY enthusiasts may rest easy

Fears have been expressed recently that the Rye DIY shop in Cinque Ports Street may be closing. Reasons given were the shelves standing empty inside the entrance and an apparent shortage of stock items.

We are assured there are no grounds for such fears. Shop manager Barry Bridges, told me last Tuesday that display stands had been relocated; gardening materials had been taken to the basement and Christmas stock was expected in during the coming week.

Replenishing stock lines has become more difficult, he said, with some suppliers going out of business in recent years. However, the staff are both friendly and helpful and have always responded well to requests for special orders. As always, local shops need local support and the retail tag “use it or lose it” has never been more applicable in these days of online shopping.
