The next Bridgepoint Music concert is less than two weeks away. The days may now be getting longer, but it still feels very much like winter and what better way to warm yourself than with a magical evening of chamber music. Our concert features a virtuoso soloist playing 1st violin, a world premiere and a beautiful quartet by perhaps the greatest composer of the romantic period.

Brahms on a winter’s evening – Saturday, February 11
Johannes Brahms’ C minor string quartet is packed full of luscious lyricism and emotionally charged music that will be the perfect antidote to the winter blues. We are also very excited to say Mathilde Milwidsky, who performed the Mendelssohn D minor violin concerto with us so brilliantly in September, has stepped in to replace Ruth Rogers. Mathilde is on course to be one of the UK’s leading soloists, so we are very lucky to have her making a return to Rye.

Along with the archetypically romantic Brahms, a piece full of achingly beautiful tunes and gorgeous harmonies, we are very proud to be presenting the world premiere of Stephen Barlow’s string quartet. Stephen will begin the concert with a short introduction to his piece, explaining the process of writing it and signposting some of the thematic material which will help the audience to unlock the meaning and the magic in this fascinating and rich work.

As well as all his conducting and composing commitments, Stephen has also been busy recording a wonderful podcast that is gaining a lot of attention. The broadcasts have given Stephen’s wife, Joanna Lumley, the chance to ask him all sorts of questions about music from the comfort of their music room. It is a genuine delight for music lovers. There are still tickets available – book now.
