The concert, taking place on Sunday October 2nd at 4pm at St Thomas’s Church, Winchelsea., is the idea of the world famous cellist, RAPHAEL WALLFISCH whose desire to help the children of Ukraine inspired this unique concert. Raphael Wallfisch who has recently moved to Bexhill, has chosen a programme of Beethoven, Bloch, Messaien as well as works by Prokofiev and Gliere both of whom were born in Ukraine. He will be performing with the pianist John York. The unique choice of poetry which will complement the music, includes works by two of the greatest Ukrainian poets, Taras Shevchenko and Lesya Ukrainka as well as two poems by local Rye poet, Harvey Gillman.  The Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, has given permission for his poem Resurrection, written specially about the present war in Ukraine, to be performed at the concert.

Tickets at £25 are selling fast but can still be purchased on line at  https://www.winchelsea-arts.org.uk/ukraine.html

All proceeds from Ukraine Reborn will go to the St Nicholas Hospital for Children in Lviv, Ukraine where injured children from all over the country are being taken because the hospitals in their towns have been hit by Russian missiles. The St Nicholas Hospital is in dire need of a new operating theatre, medical equipment and medications. Generous sponsors have covered all expenses so that the proceeds will go to help the innocent traumatised children of Ukraine restructure their broken lives.

Presented in conjunction with Winchelsea Arts, Ukraine Reborn is organised and directed by Ann Rachlin MBE
