Rye’s vibrant arts community has an exciting new addition with the opening of K.S Creative Pottery’s studio in the heart of the historic town. The studio is brought to life by acclaimed ceramic artist Kate Sellers, who celebrated the launch with an open-studio event that saw locals and visitors alike explore handmade ceramics, enjoy refreshments and meet the maker herself.

Kate, the creative force behind the K.S Creative Pottery brand, is known for her joyful, small-batch, handmade tableware inspired by Sicilian design and crafted from Staffordshire white stoneware clay. Her playful pieces, such as striped plates and whimsical face-inspired ceramics, have already garnered attention beyond Rye, including acclaim from notable destinations like Liberty.

Situated at 12,Cinque Ports Street, Kate’s working studio will be more than just the place in which Kate makes her pottery – workshops are being scheduled, giving both beginners and experienced makers the chance to throw, hand-build and explore clay in an inspiring environment. Early events include bookings for January workshops, reflecting strong interest in learning and creative participation. Open days will offer an opportunity for a wider audience to enjoy her work and a chance to buy direct from the maker.
The Rye location builds on the town’s long tradition of pottery and crafts. Rye has a rich heritage of ceramic arts — from historic local works preserved in the Rye Castle Museum to longstanding institutions such as Rye Pottery, which has been hand-making decorative ceramics in the region for centuries.

The arrival of K.S Creative Pottery’s studio is a welcome addition to Rye’s established creative community, which already includes galleries, workshops and makers’ studios across venues like the Rye Creative Centre and local art galleries. These spaces host exhibitions, classes and markets that celebrate craftsmanship in ceramics, printmaking, painting and more.

Kate’s Rye studio promises to be more than just a workspace — it’s a place where clay enthusiasts can connect, learn and be inspired among a growing network of artists and makers. Whether picking up a bespoke plate or getting hands-on with clay for the first time, visitors to K.S Creative Pottery are sure to find something that sparks their creative joy.
