The spring show of  the Rye Society of Artists is exhibiting for all to see until April 24 at Rye Art Gallery. Everyone is welcome, and the show itself has a great variety of work.

Held in the lovely surroundings of the art gallery by kind permission of the trustees, it has proved to be a very successful event so far and still Easter to come. 18 pieces of work have sold, and further sales will undoubtedly follow.

The 2020 show was not able to take place due to lockdown and in 2021 members of RSA were still isolating, so that was missed as well. What a welcome then for the 2022 spring event! Smaller than the summer show, and with different entry criteria, this little gem has pieces of work from the society’s members and a number of invited artists. All information about entry requirements for RSA shows are on their website.

Setting up

Davida Smith at work

Davida Smith, one of the committee members and a past chairman, worked hard with Rye Art Gallery trustees to arrange this lovely event held in the first weekend of spring. At last, the exhibitors and society members were able to organise and hang the show themselves. The variety and different styles of work meant this was not an easy task, but it was completed on time and to maximum advantage, as shown by the positive comments and good sales.

There are currently 40 members of the artist led RSA and 28 exhibited in galleries 4 and 5, with invited artist upstairs. Come and see what has been sold and the remaining works, in sculpture, oils, water colours and more.

A future date

September brings the Rye Festival of Arts and an exhibition by RSA members: a ‘Return of the RAs’, Fred Cuming RA, Mick Rooney RA and Gus Cummins RA are coming to the gallery again, so don’t miss that future date when it is published.
