Two days of classical gems

The first Rye-citals at the Creative Centre by the pianist Alisdair Kitchen were held on Sunday, February 26. It was a lovely concert of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, and the series deserves support. It is to be held on every last Sunday in the month at 3.30pm.

Monday, February 27  saw several of us braving the weather to go to the second stage of the 13th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition at the White Rock. We heard three wonderful pianists – Dong Wan Ha who played Rachmaninov (Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini), Youkyoung Kim who played the same and Florian Mitreawho played  Mozart (Piano Concerto No 23 in A major)

The semi-finals were  held on Wednesday and the final, which consists of six complete concerti with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, will be held over two evenings: Friday March 3 at 7pm and Saturday March 4 at 6pm.

I can’t wait for the Saturday final, which I will be going to. For full information and tickets visit the competition website:
