Plenty of options at the Union

Last month we dined at the Union in East Street, Rye, a restaurant, cocktail and wine bar in the centre of town.

I suppose the fact that I had won the “dinner for two, to include a complimentary drink” might slightly have coloured our opinion of the evening, which we thoroughly enjoyed!

On arrival at 7.30pm, the mood was a bit quiet and sepulchral, but cheered up significantly after about 8pm when folk tipped up, and also a few libations had been taken.

The Union in East Street, Rye

The food was very good, although the menu was a bit muddling. On the whole it is a sharing menu and some items on the menu were a lot bigger than others, and therefore made for difficult choices. However, Curtis and Fern were more than happy to explain it all to us.

It was certainly protein rich, and of course, with lots of delicious looking vegetarian options. We actually came home determined to return with a couple of mates, and we also came home full, which was a plus not always experienced.

Good for Fern, and Curtis. We will be back and thank you for so kindly offering a free dinner as a raffle prize for the wonderful tennis club in Rye.

  1. The Union is indeed a great restaurant which – somewhat unusually for Rye – offers a wonderfully diverse menu with variety of choices for both meat-eaters and non-meat eaters alike. They are to be congratulated for this and not having just a single token vegetarian option at the end of an otherwise comprehensive menu as is so often the case in other restaurants, pubs and cafes around town.

  2. This is my favourite restaurant in Rye too. Very friendly and relaxed. It’s got an excellent variety with more than one vegetarian option. It’s one of the few restaurant in Rye I can go back to and eat something different other than the usual one veggie option. I always take guests there because they’ve got so much choice. I’m just disappointed that I avoided it for years thinking it was just a ‘steak house’.
