RNLI Rye Harbour station press officers Kt and Martin Bruce, were invited into St Thomas C of E primary school in Winchelsea on Monday, June 3, to give an assembly talk about the Mary Stanford disaster.

The head teacher, Mrs Carol Gardiner, had heard about the pebble memorial which is being created by the local community to honour the 17 crew members who died on the ill-fated Rye Harbour lifeboat which capsized in 1928, and wanted her school to be involved.

All of the pupils and the staff are embarking on a mammoth paint-in of 180 pebbles which will play a big part in the pebble pavement when it is in place later in the year.
