The sunshine certainly brought out the crowds on Saturday March 29 for Guide in a Hide. The first encounter for visitors was right outside the Discovery Centre where four experts with telescopes were on hand to educate those who stopped to look.

Linda Wren, the co-ordinator of this wonderful family activity, said: “We had weather, birds and visitors, glorious sunshine, a partial solar eclipse, a biting wind and an amazing two-hundred and twenty two visitors for our Guide-in-a-Hide day today!
“It was great to meet you all and show you a total of thirty-four species of birds including a Rye Harbour Nature Reserve special, the Sandwich Terns – over eighty of them! It was also lovely to meet the Marylebone birders too – we hope you enjoyed your day.”
Marylebone Birdwatching Society is based in Hampstead borough of Camden North London but attracts members from all parts of the city. This is a friendly club but members are serious bird watchers and enjoy sharing their expertise. They kindly shared with Rye News some of the photos that they took on the day.

There are no names of birds on the photos: this is a challenge please put the answers in comments. Who will be the winner?
The next Guide in a Hide is on Saturday April 26.
Choose a winning poster for the reserve
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve need you to help choose a winning poster. They recently involved St Thomas’s Primary School Winchelsea in creating a poster for the reserve reminding visitors why they need to take care of this unique environment.
Laura Ross, Communications Officer at the Discovery Centre said: “ We have been blown away by the creations from budding artists as young as 4 – 11 years old, and although it’s been really hard to choose our favourites, we’ve got there in the end.
“We’d now like your help to decide our overall winner – they’ll get a voucher to attend one of our family events, plus we’ll be showcasing their design in the Rye News and the Discovery Centre.
“All we need you to do, is to go to our Facebook page (Rye Harbour Nature Reserve), ‘like’ your favourite poster – and the one with the most votes by April 15 wins. We’d like to say a BIG thank you to all the children for getting involved”
