Consultation on proposals to introduce parking charges at one of the most popular free car parks in the area runs until the end of this month.
East Sussex County Council is asking for views on potential charges at Broomhill Sands car park on Lydd Road in Camber. ESCC is proposing a £2 charge for one hour and £4 for two. A daily rate would be £8 during the summer and £6 in the winter months.
Income generated by the proposed parking charges would provide a budget for the ongoing maintenance and management of the car park, for which there is currently no dedicated funding.
Any surplus income would be used to support management of the nearby County Council-owned Camber Sands Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The proposed parking charges for Broomhill Sands Car Park, between 8am to 6pm are as follows:

Parking for blue badge holders, cycles and motorcycles would remain free.
Payment for parking would be available using a mobile phone app or card via a parking machine on site.
The consultation period runs from 9 to 30 January 2026. You can submit your views here.
