The names of the new food waste collection trucks which will start to be seen around Rye later this year are being put to a public vote. 20 names have been selected from suggestions made by East Sussex school children.

The new service, covering Hastings, Rother and Wealden council areas, will be introduced from March and will mean waste is collected from homes in new bins provided by the councils.

The waste will be turned into soil conditioner which can be used for farming or in people’s gardens.

The new names are: The Hungry Helper, Peels on Wheels, Bin Appetit, Food Snapper, Wasty Warrior, Lettuce Recycle, William the Composter, Leftover Larry, SpongeBob ScrapPants, The Bincredible Bulk, The Compost Crusader, Lord of the Bins, The Very Hungry Caddy-Filler, Trashasaurus Rex, Compost Kevin, Peelinator, Sir-eats-a-lot, Food Dude, Rubbishaurus Rex, and Garbage Goblin.
