Next Saturday 22 August sees two important events in the calendar – the Rye and District Country Show and the Rye Flower and Veg Show are taking place on the same day. Both events are going ahead, in spite of the challenges brought on by one of the hottest summers on record.
The Rye and District Country Show takes place at Elm Tree Farm in Icklesham, TN36 4BH (next to the A259) 10am to 4pm. Chairman Mike Boyd says the show will have something for everyone. “As usual there’ll be the dog show, horse show, thatching, tractors, classic cars, craft tent, trade stands, kids’ rides, displays, food & drink, live music – and more. A great day out for all the family!”
Admission is £7.50 per adult, with children free. Last year the show raised over £27,000 for St Michael’s Hospice. https://ryeshow.org.uk/
Meanwhile, plans for this year’s Rye Flower and Veg Show at Rye Community Centre are gathering apace as the big day draws near said organisers Lorna Hall and Helena Hudd. “We are already receiving a good level of entries for some of the classes, but we do know that it’s very difficult to judge what might be at it’s peak from the garden for 22 August, especially in the middle of our fifth heat-wave! Nevertheless, knowing the people of Rye we are sure there will be the usual wonderful display.”
If you can’t find anything in your garden or allotment there are some classes for photography, handicrafts and cookery. All classes, rules and details for entry are in the schedule booklets which are distributed around town or on the website for full details, with an interactive entry form at www.ryeflowerandvegshow.co.uk
“If the classes don’t appeal. then why not just pop along after 2pm,” said Lorna and Helena. “It’s free entry and a chance to enjoy other people’s endeavours, along with a cuppa and a piece of cake kindly supplied by the Landgate WI. We are looking forward to seeing all old friends and new.”
