We’ve had a bit of a week at Rye News. Our current publishing platform has been creaking and failing, but it is all fixed now hopefully.
You’ll have been noticing disappearing menus, the inability to comment sometimes, and problems with submitting a story. Sometimes the whole site has been down, leaving a rather stark warning about a “critical incident” which makes our paper sound like a Hollywood film about nuclear weapons, probably starring Harrison Ford.
We’re really sorry about this and thank you for persevering with us. A massive thank you also to Ben Keeley from Westfield Creative for coming to our rescue.
The paper will look a bit different over the next few weeks as we move Rye News to a new publishing platform and a new website that’s a lot more versatile, easy to use, and frankly a bit more 2026. There’s a massive archive of thousands of stories going back twelve years that we don’t want to lose. It’s a huge job.
Rather than lots of separate news articles, we’ll often have a round up of some of the main stories on one page.
There’s some good news about our search for volunteers. Since our appeal for new recruits, we’ve had some brilliant people come forward. Some want to help us publish, others want to do some writing. We’ve also had interest from marketing and social media experts, people who want to run our events page, and those offering technical help. It’s been really heartening to see so many of you want to help Rye’s local paper.
We’re not out of the woods yet though, the Rye News editor vacancy is still unfilled and will become vacant in the middle of September. If you would like more information about this important role, or any of the others at Rye News, please email info@ryenews.org.uk .
