How many gardeners does it take to make Rye Flower and Veg Show?
The answer, as was evident last week, is dozens and dozens and we are very grateful to every single one of them.
“There was a marvellous display of local produce at Rye Community Centre on 22 August in spite of the very challenging weather conditions we have all experienced through the long hot summer. The entries of vegetables and fruit were varied and of excellent quality proving how devoted the entrants are to their gardens,” said Lorna Hall.
Helena Hudd agreed and was also delighted with the number of children’s entries there were this year (15), which were judged equally alongside the adult’s classes.
Helena also praised the high standard of entries in the Christmas decoration handicraft class where entrants have agreed to let their works be displayed on a Flower and Veg Show Christmas Tree in St Mary’s later in the year.

Enormous thanks go to Mayor Chris Hoggart for his work on presenting the awards and to Paul Goring, Rye’s Town Crier for his humorous proclamation and enthusiastic bell ringing.
We are grateful as always to the ladies of Landgate WI for their afternoon teas and delicious cakes which kept the afternoon going with a swing.
