On Saturday 27 June, in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, Rye 1sts won by 36 runs over Buxted Park, who were relegated from Division 2 last season.

Rye batted first and posted 253-9 off 45 overs. A total constructed of a number of contributions throughout the batting order. Ben Browning top scored with 49, and 5 other players scored important runs as Rye amassed a good score. Buxted Park bowlers, of which there were six, equally shared the wickets around.

Buxted Park made a positive start to the run chase. At 148-3 the game was seemingly moving towards Buxted Park. Enter Freddie Mackenzie with a match winning spell of 5-41. He dismissed top scorer George Read for 52, which precipitated a middle order collapse. 6 wickets fell for 24 runs, before Buxted were dismissed for 215 in the 45th over.

This Saturday Rye 1st Xl travel to play Cuckfield 2nds as we reach the half way point in the season. Rye sit in 3rd place in Division 3 East of The Sussex County League.

This week Rye 2nds host Newhaven 1sts in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn.

The juniors had a tough week with all four teams failing to win. However there were notable individual performances. Luke Rogers with 39 not out v Tenterden u13 in a 3 run defeat, A 58 run partnership in the U16s between Archie Adams 24 and Alex Welch 12 NO. Quinn Morris with 2 wickets v Great Chart for the U11A and Edward Whiteman with 2-16 for the U11B team v Wye A. The common theme in the teams this week was under age players stepping up and producing performances against older opponents.

Next up for the juniors: the U13s host Wye A, the U11A travel to play Folkestone, the U11B host Tenterden B and the U16s travel to play Tenterden.
