Lifeboat teams from Rye Harbour and Pett rescued a person with a suspected broken ankle from under the cliffs at Fairlight on Friday, May 23.

A call to HM Coastguard just after 5pm alerted Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat and RNLI Rye Harbour to the incident, which led to the casualty being taken to the slipway at Pett. They were then handed over to the coastguard rescue team.

Whilst on the rescue, the teams were alerted to a 24-foot yacht suffering engine failure three miles off shore. Crews from RNLI Rye Harbour and PLIRB were quickly on the scene and conducted a welfare check on the two crew. The yacht was then towed to Rye Harbour for safe mooring.

The crew on the PLIRB boats were due to be singing – as the Pett Slip Boys – at Pett Fest on Friday evening. In spite of the rescue they were still able to perform, arriving an hour late.
