Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted. The assault happened around 4:25pm on Wednesday December 2 on the public footpath leading from Tillingham Avenue to Love Lane, near to the allotments by Rye Community Primary School.

The 63-year-old victim was walking when he was approached from behind by two women who started making offensive remarks. One of the women punched the man several times to the face and the other woman kicked him in the torso. The women left the scene, walking in the direction of Ferry Road. The man suffered a fractured cheekbone, injuries to his abdomen, and lost a tooth in the assault.

One of the women is described as white, approximately 28 years old, around 5’ 5” and of stocky build. She had straight, copper coloured hair slicked back and was wearing a white top with dark leggings. The second woman is described as white, approximately 25 years old, around 5’ 5” and of slim build. She had long, wavy black hair and was wearing dark clothing.

The women had two young girls with them, believed to be aged nine or 10, who were both wearing school uniform.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who may have any other information, is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial number 875 of 02/12. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  1. What has happened here? I’m surprised to see there are no comments. Many nearby residents and elderly who walk alone along Tillingham Avenue and the field behind are very concerned to read this. I saw a Facebook post on the night it happened and have spoken to people living in Tillingham Avenue. So far no-one has provided any credibility to this story? No-one saw it or knows who the victim was? Did it happen? Is it true? It’s such an unusual report of anything in Rye.

  2. Interesting questions from mags ivatts, did it happen, is it true?
The police are appealing for witnesses so I’m guessing they’ve already asked those questions.
One interesting question would be, why did it happen, it’s pretty unusual for such a random unprovoked attack in that area.
No one knows who the victim is?
Not true, those that need to know do.

  3. Once upon a time,we had an Inspector in charge at Rye Police Station, who updated us all on any serious issues in the town, now nobody knows who runs the show at the station, thats when its open, nodoubt there is somebody in charge of Rother police, and its a pity he or she, could not update us on this serious incident, and put peoples minds to rest,or doesn’t the safety of the public in this town, matter to them anymore .
