A smile makes all the difference

Do you ever notice that someone in a shop has made a difference to how your life is happier?

I feel strongly that in a community such as we have in Rye that the staff or owners of the shops or even the cafes or restaurants or pubs or bars can do just that.

I have been recently so impressed by the new pharmacist in Boots. I say new but actually Rachel Snee has been running the pharmacy in Boots since September 2022. Where does time go? Please don’t answer that!

I remember a time when your prescription was not ready and there were boxes all over the floor waiting to be dealt with. Customers were a bit peeved and some tempers overflowed.

Rachel has conquered that chaos and now provides a smooth and competent service. I spoke to manager Lauren and explained that I was so impressed by Rachel’s efficiency with a smile. Thank you Rachel.

Perhaps you would like to say who has made you smile in Rye’s commercial world. I hope no-one would promote anyone who you think is unfriendly or surly. Perhaps they are having a really bad day!

  1. My vote goes to staff in Day Lewis especially new pharmacist, well newish. He is very helpful and gives time to questions, suggesting a possible remedy and offered for me to come back after three days to check it worked.
More time than I got with GP and they are just as busy if different than GP..
And actually dispensary up at Rye Medical where staff is also very busy, they are helpful and friendly on the phone and face to face.

    • I agree with Chris totally! The staff in the Mermaid are well trained and, more to the point, they are a stable workforce who remember regulars and happy to exchange pleasantries.

  2. My vote will go to Paws ‘n’ Claws. When I purchased my first dog and was a bundle of nerves on making sure I did everything right, Nicky and her staff did nothing but smile and laugh and be incredibly helpful and keep me calm and offer sensible advice. I also love that dogs go crazy in the shop with all the smells and create chaos, and no one bats an eyelid.

    • Where is this Cinque Ports Hotel in Rye? There’s no establishment with that name on any search engine apart from in Hastings.

  3. Steve the Postman and Dave and Charlene at the Post Office in Jempsons – They make postage a delight! (Not forgetting Joel at Car Craft, who always makes me laugh – whether he means to or not!)
