Rye News is always keen to congratulate local businesses and individuals who have excelled in their given field.  Rye removal and storage company Bournes Moves have been shortlisted for 2023 BAR Domestic Mover of the Year competition.

Bournes Moves

They are a family owned company established in Rye in 1875, and they have been shortlisted as one of the six best UK moving companies in the competition. The prestigious competition is run by the British Association of Removers (BAR) which is the trade association for removal and storage services in the UK representing over 450 members.

The judges have commended all entrants, as the standard of entry across the board was extremely high.

The BAR exists to promote professional excellence in the industry and to develop and maintain professional standards. To become, and remain, a BAR Member, moving and storage companies must undergo a thorough inspection to ensure they meet the required level of professionalism and service required. This includes adhering to the BAR Code of Practice, providing an advanced payment guarantee and offering a dispute resolution service, so that anyone instructing a member to carry out a move or store their goods, can rest assured they’ve made the right – and safe – choice in selecting a reputable, professional, financially protected mover.

The Domestic Mover of the Year competition celebrates high standards and recognises those moving companies who excel in customer service. The independent judging panel focuses on the “Customer Experience” – including a moving company’s website, quote, knowledge and professionalism of staff, commitment to customer service, customer feedback and satisfaction.

Since its establishment in 1875 Bournes has remained a family-owned company. Led previously by Eric and Roy Bourne the company grew to provide a range of local, national, and international moving and storage services to home movers. Today the company is owned and run by the 5th generation of the Bourne family, led by Managing Director Wesley Bourne, employing 55 people at its Rye branch.

On being shortlisted for the award Wesley said: “We feel privileged to be recognised by the British Association of Removers for our commitment to providing the highest level of service to our customers.

“As always, I’m extremely proud of the whole team who go above and beyond every day to make the experience of moving house or storing belongings a positive one – at a time that can be very stressful. Our customer feedback and our excellent independent quality rating on Trustpilot go to show how much this means to the people who trust us to help them with their move, and it’s great to see the team’s achievements recognised by our professional industry too.”

Bournes is looking forward to stage two of the competition, where customer feedback will be evaluated. Finalists for this year’s competition will be announced on March 31 and will then have a site inspection by the judges. The winner will be announced at the BAR Annual Conference Gala Dinner on May 13.
