Just as Rye News went to print last Thursday, August 11, Sussex Police attended a single vehicle road traffic accident on the A259 at East Guldeford involving a cement lorry with a total weight of 32 tons.

The vehicle had overturned on the bend taking out the crash barrier and rolling into the river upside down. Fortunately, the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Recovery units were called to the scene to lift the vehicle from the ditch but the road was closed well into the evening with diversions in place.

A full-scale team effort from emergency services involved Sussex Road Policing Unit, East Sussex Fire & Rescue, Kent police, East Sussex Highways, Kent Highways, and the Environment Agency.

  1. I wonder how many accidents at this corner on the A 259 are required before some action is taken. Vehicles go off the road there frequently enough for me to have seen the results of accidents on that corner almost every time I use the road, including Thursday 17th August as another crumpled car was jacked onto a trailer.
