It is with great pleasure that the Trustees of Rye Community Shop are able to announce a further round of funding for Rye & District charity and community groups. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they are supporting the social and local community infrastructure for public benefit and will be required to complete an evidenced form following any successful grant.

Application information will be available direct from the shop at 41 Cinque Ports Street, Rye (open 9:30am – 4pm Monday- Friday and 10am -2pm Saturday) or from kate2sims@aol.com from September 1. Closing date for applications is Friday September 21.

It is just over two and a half years since we opened at 41 Cinque Ports Street and to date we have supported many local groups to the value of just over £40,000. As a result of this success, the Trustees have recently appointed a part time shop manager to ensure that the shop will be able to continue to serve the community. This new manager, Julie Stonham, is well known to many in Rye and having already been a volunteer, is a tremendous supporter of the shop and all that it stands for.

To be successful however we need a devoted team of volunteers both in the shop and as Trustees. On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers and especially to Dave Pellen who has recently stood down as a Trustee. Dave has been a tremendous help to the charity in dealing with all the funding applications and correspondence and we will very much miss his pragmatic approach.

Conscious of the need for succession planning, the Trustees would welcome enquiries from anyone who may wish to take Dave’s place on the Board. Expressions of interest should be made to kate2sims@aol.com together with a skills profile.

And lastly, thank you to everyone for supporting the shop either as donors and/or as customers. We couldn’t do it without you.
