The motorist killed in a car crash on the A259 at Rectory Lane, Winchelsea, in the early hours of Tuesday September 23 has been named by police as Michael Walsh, aged 72, who came from the Rye area. Police were called after a car was seen in bushes with its headlights on around 2am. The car had struck a tree close to the village hall. The driver was declared dead at the scene. The A259 was closed in both directions and diversions set up through the village. The diversion, though, was unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles because of a narrow archway. [Source: Sussex Police]
