Festival of the Sea cancelled

The organisers of the 2021 Rye Festival of the Sea have taken the decision to pull the plug on this year’s event due to lack of support. Their full statement says:

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we have to announce that boats won’t float again this year.

“Sadly, it has not been possible to muster enough support from traders and stallholders this year. This helps to offset the big costs of insurance, first aid, security and such like that is needed to run the festival each year. Having held a committee meeting recently, we wanted to let folks know in good time.

“But, the good news is we are going all out to have a super festival in September 2022. Anyone making a raft can put it on hold, but we would welcome a bumper flotilla of rafts next year. (Anyone who has sponsored this year can rest assured that the money will be used for next year). The organising committee is all set to make Rye Festival of the Sea 2022 a great family day out and welcomes any ideas in advance as to what locals would like to see in it next year.

“The organising committee made the decision with a heavy heart, but the festival relies on so much support that it was not viable to run this year.

“We hope to see you all in the future and will be updating our website and social media with any updates as soon as they’re made available.”
