The Rye community is outstanding for its generosity and, due to the wonderful donations we have received over recent weeks, and especially as a result of harvest celebrations, our cupboard and stores are looking healthily stocked, and the volunteer teams are confident in being able to cope with an increase in demand.

For the time being we are not resuming a delivery service on the basis that shopping is permitted and schools remain open, but this will be reviewed weekly.  We will continue to deliver to those currently receiving deliveries and who are unable to travel due to ill health or other problems.

If you or anyone you know is threatened by the lockdown and worried about adequate food provision please do contact Rye Food Bank or one of the agencies at the bottom of this article.  A visit to us is a friendly and positive experience.  We are experienced in helping people in all sorts of situations and no-one is refused help.  Your visit is welcome.

All donations, financial or physical, are gratefully received. It helps us if any food donations are made on Wednesday mornings at the rear of the Baptist church. We can then package the produce up ready for collection on Wednesdays from 1pm.

We are open at the Baptist Hall, behind the church in Cinque Ports Street on Wednesdays from 9am for donations. The food bank is open from 1pm until 3pm.

The Rye Food Bank phone number is not manned all the time, but you can leave a message and we will respond. Email is better and this is monitored several times during the day and in the evening.

At this difficult time, if you are someone who receives a winter fuel payment but doesn’t need it, a season of good will gesture could be to donate it to Rye Food Bank. Such a donation could make all the difference to a struggling family.  Every penny donated is spent on providing food to those in crisis.

Monetary donations can be sent to the Bexhill Food Bank Rye Branch at Barclays Bank, sort code 20-54-25, account number 83501116, through the Jempson Foundation or cheques to Rye Food Bank c/o 24 North Salts, Rye. If you donate via the Jempson Foundation and are a taxpayer, gift aid can be applied, thereby increasing the value of the donation by 25% at no cost to the donor.

  1. We’ve received many generous donations but if you’re looking to make a contribution this week, we’d very much appreciate:

    – Jars of pasta or curry sauce
    – Tinned potatoes
    – Tinned fruit (other than grapefruit)
    – Fresh produce as long as it can be delivered Wednesday morning before 11am so we have time to package it for customer collections in the afternoon.

    Any help is much appreciated.
