Police officers, acting on a tip off, arrested three people in a drugs raid at a property in Rye on Wednesday, December 18 2019.

The officers seized a quantity of drugs and money from the premises and three people were arrested.

A 37 year-old man and a 47 year-old man, both from Rye, were arrested on suspicion of supplying a class A drug. They were both released under investigation.

A 66-year-old man from Rye was arrested on suspicion of supplying of a class A drug and for the possession of a firearm. He was released on police bail until January 15, 2020.

This is the latest police operation to crackdown on suppliers of illegal drugs in Rye and surrounding area. Inspector Aidan Cornwall said: “Those who supply illegal drugs are a blight on our community and we will continue to target them.”

In a separate incident on Friday, December 20 police officers raided an address in the Landgate. A spokesperson for the police said “A quantity of cannabis was seized and enquiries are continuing. No arrest or interview under caution has taken place at this stage.”

While on Monday, December 23, emergency services were called to attend a fire at a house off Winchelsea Road in Rye.

Substantial damage was caused to the house, and to adjacent properties, the occupants of which were unhurt but had to move elsewhere.

A police spokesperson confirmed that a quantity of cannabis was found in one of the bedrooms at the house where the fire originated.

Two occupants of the address, a man aged 63 and man aged 47, were arrested on suspicion of arson and cultivation of cannabis. After being interviewed they were released on police bail until January 20 while police continue their enquiries.
