A talk on the 1928 Mary Stanford lifeboat disaster filled the Church of the Holy Spirit, Rye Harbour last Friday, October 20. It was hosted by the Craft Club, a charitable organisation under the auspices of the Rye Golf Club as reported in Rye News last week and and raised £8,000 for the RNLI Rye Harbour Boat. Appeal.

The speaker was Brigadier Hugh Willing CBE, a professional soldier for 36 years before retiring to Staplecross in 2007. He served with the Royal Green Jackets in many parts of the world. He was born in Kenya and travelled widely in Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, Arabia and the Far East. He now travels the world on small cruise ships as a lecturer in British military and colonial history.

He gives a lot of charity talks and always includes one each year to raise funds for the Craft Club.
