Rother District Council (RDC) has announced that it is taking applications for its Rye Visitor Events Grants. The grants are to support new or existing events that will attract new visitors to the town.

Applications are welcomed from community groups and promoters looking to stage events in Rye and the surrounding area.

RDC has stressed that the overall grants budget is small and it expects the interest to be high so it is only able to match-fund a limited number of events. In previous bidding rounds the amounts awarded varied, and were mostly in the range of £250 to £2,000.

While RDC is interested in supporting the development of as many high-quality new or existing visitor events as possible throughout the calendar year, this round is focused on supporting events taking place in the winter/early spring period.

There are a range of criteria for the grant application, including:

  • All events should be accessible and open to the general public.
  • Funding is awarded to support quality local events and encourage them to develop, with the eventual aim of becoming self-sustaining.
  • Funding is project based and fixed term. Funding in one financial year is not a guarantee of future support.
  • Money from one project cannot be rolled forward to support another project.
