For the last two weeks Jempson’s has been celebrating 90 years of trading across its current stores in Peasmarsh, Battle, Bexhill and Rye. There have been daily tastings which customers have really enjoyed, and on Friday, June 20 there were extra treats for all to appreciate at Peasmarsh, including James Martin’s engaging demonstrations, tastings and music by Kate Harding and Jon Wheeler.
As one customer said: “It is great to be part of Jempson’s 90th celebrations – and James Martin is the icing on the cake.”

The audience for the first James Martin demonstration at 3pm began queueing about an hour in advance. The same happened at the further two demonstrations later in the day: this chef and TV presenter certainly has a following.

Before James began, Stephen Jempson reminded him that Jempson’s had actually given him his first big break back in 2004 when he was invited to do his first demonstration for them. This caused much laughter and in fact the laughter continued throughout the talk. It was rather like his Saturday morning show but on steroids. His cheeky banter, mocking air fryers and teasing guests about how they cook at home, kept the audience enthralled.

James’ style is very much his own and he loves to entertain. He delivered a high energy, culinary-entertainment show laced with his charm, of which he has plenty, cooking tips and a huge dose of humour. The audience, mainly women, lapped it up.
This video gives a taste of the celebrations, the tastings and the wonderful loyal staff.
