Work on the new loading bay in Rye High Street – outside The George In Rye hotel – will start on Monday January 12. That’s the date scheduled for road markings to be put down. Signage will follow on Thursday January 15. Meanwhile, a public notice will herald the experimental traffic order coming into effect. There will be a trial period of six months to see how effective the bay is, as requested by Rye Town Council. Legal work should complete by Friday January 23 and the bay become operational on Friday January 30. The loading bay operating times for the trial period will be:

  • Goods vehicles only 11pm to 3pm Monday to Saturday
  • Any vehicle 3pm-11pm Monday to Saturday
  • Sunday – any vehicle

The maximum unloading / loading / waiting time will be limited to 10 minutes. The area in front of the hotel’s restaurant – currently marked out with double yellow lines – will become a dropping-off zone, also with a 10-minute maximum stay.
