Here’s a roundup of some of the other stories making the news in Rye this week.

Covid jabs return

Covid vaccination is starting up again at the Tilling Green Community Centre. Spring boosters for older patients will take place on Thursdays 9am-3pm, and also on Sunday although timings are still being confirmed. The NHS will notify those eligible for the jab by letter.

Once again Clarity Chemists will provide the lead at the Rye vaccination centre.

Plans for Peasmarsh

Main Street Peasmarsh

The Peasmarsh Local Plan (PLP) is being discussed next week by Rother District Council.

There’s an extraordinary meeting of the council at the town hall in Bexhill on Monday, April 22 at 6pm. A meeting of Rother’s cabinet earlier this month recommended adopting the PLP to help decide planning applications and follows a referendum in the village in February this year.

The agenda is here.

No need for speed

A recruitment drive to find more volunteers to help prevent injury and death on local roads has been announced. Community Speedwatch are looking for new members who will get full training from Sussex Police.

The volunteers use speed detection devices, and vehicles caught speeding are then referred to the police which could involve prosecution.

More details on their website.

Meanwhile Sussex Police has launched a consultation about what they refer to as “road-related anti-social behaviour.” Operation Downsway runs each year to hear local concerns about drivers and motorcyclists, and aims to reduce collisions and injuries.
