Not beach-combing – litter-picking

A big thank you is owed to about 70 volunteers who turned out last Saturday, December 2, to clean the beach. About 30 Rye Runners cleaned the Winchelsea Beach end and one of them, Janet, was lucky and found a £5 note which she immediately donated to our Discovery Project, to build a new visitor centre on the site of Lime Kiln cottage.

The beach was cleaner than usual due to the calmer weather in recent weeks, and only a third of the usual quantity of rubbish was collected. The rubbish consisted mainly of fishing net, plastic bottle tops and some dog poop bags.
