Rye 2nds – 7 wins in 9 matches

Another week of exciting and successful cricket for Rye Cricket Club as the halfway point in the season is reached. Rye 2nds recorded their seventh win in 9 matches with a 6 wicket win away to Bexhill 2nds. On a grim afternoon of weather, Rye elected to bowl first. Straight from the start Bexhill were under pressure as runs were hard to come by and wickets fell regularly. Bexhill reached 153-9 in the 40th over. Martin Blincow 4-28, James Archer 2-23, Ross Pierce 2-21 continued their accurate bowling, the hallmark of performances this Season. Steve Phillimore 101 not out was the only player in double figures. In reply Skipper Ben Clifton 59 not out carried his bat to see Rye to victory, supported by Tom O’Neill 19 in a 3rd wicket partnership of 79.

This Saturday the 2nds host second place Glynde 2nds in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn.

The 1st Xl lost a gripping match at home to Hailsham in the final over of the game. Rye 1sts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera posted 201-9. Harry Smeed 56 and Luke Payton 34 the mainstay of the innings as the Hailsham bowlers shared the 9 wickets.

In reply Hailsham’s win was secured by their overseas player, Jake Hainsworth, who scored 108 not out. Only 2 other players made double figures. Harvey Otto 3-64, Craig Pierce 2-29 and Shahrukh Khan 2-25 almost bowled Rye to a win. The first sit 5th in the League and travel to play Little Common Ramblers this Saturday.

The 3rds slipped to a narrow 3 wicket defeat as well. The Thirds posted 146 all out in the 36th over. Sam Bradum 63 and Lexy Tuddenham 22 batted beyond their young years. In reply Herstmonceux thirds, squeezed home as their players from their 2nd Xl, who had no league fixture, saw them home. Ben Brewer 93 not out and Lee Giles 30 not out did the damage. Anthony Bradnum 4-18 the pick of the bowlers. This Saturday Rye 3rds host Sidley 2nds at Icklesham.

Rye u13 take on Tenterden

The juniors continue their fine run of form. Last Thursday the Under 13s conceded 153 runs away to Wye. Soul Summers 2-16 the pick of the Rye bowlers. In reply Rye passed the target in the 19th over. Major contributions by Charlie Cooke 33 retd and Luke Rogers 33 not out.

On Monday evening the U11A continued their unbeaten run and secured winning the U11B League with a 126 run win over Mersham. Theo Davis 3-6 the pick of the Rye bowlers, and Luke Rogers smashed 42 off just 14 balls including 3 sixes.

Rye’s u-11B versus Tenterden

The U11B lost narrowly by 8 runs to Tenterden. Fergus Cooke 18 top scored and in reply Fergus took 2-8.

Rye u-16 beat Boughton

On Tuesday the U16s beat Boughton by 96 runs. Oscar Wincott-Stone scored 40, Lexy Tuddenham 33, and Charlie Cooke 43 no led the way with the bat. In reply Soul Summers 3-7 was the pick of the bowlers.

Next week the U11A have a free week on Monday but the U11B host Mersham. Tuesday the U16s travel to Sibton Park.
