Sailors push the boat out

Rye Harbour Sailing Club (RHSC) invites you and your family to try sailing for free as part of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Push the Boat Out 2016.

RYA Push the Boat Out (May 14-22) is a nine day nationwide event that will see hundreds of sailing clubs and centres across the country opening their gates for local people to come and have a go at sailing and windsurfing.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or sail regularly, RHSC will be one of the many sailing clubs and centres across the country taking part in RYA Push the Boat Out. The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at taster sessions.
The event starts on Friday May 20 when you are invited to have a go at cruiser sailing and on Sunday 22 why not experience the thrill of cruiser racing? From 10am, on Saturday 21 and Sunday May  you will be able to have a go at dinghy sailing. There will be different activities taking place including taster sails, demonstration of knots and splicing, information about sea safety from the RNLI along with hot refreshments and a BBQ from 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. If you are under 18 you will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The taster sails are free but you will need to bring money for refreshments and the BBQ. Whatever the weather you will need to bring warm clothes and RHSC will provide buoyancy aids and life jackets. To book in advance for a dinghy taster sail please call Caroline Wylson on 01797 223112 email or to book for a sail on a sailing cruiser please call Richard Hopper on 01797 222291 email

Caroline Wylson, Commodore of RHSC said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out. We are inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing, see what the club has to offer and get involved. Who knows if you visit you might just get hooked!”

RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for you to discover your local sailing venue, like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is.”
