On Saturday, cricket was washed out in Sussex, except on this eastern edge. The 1sts travelled to Preston Nomads 2nds, enjoyed eight balls, and then the heavens opened.

The 3rd XI played Westfield 2nds where it was raining runs. Westfield batted first and scored 311-8 off 40 overs. Sam Jarvis 118, was supported by Michael Dobinson 42 not out. Anthony Bradnum 3-32 the pick of the bowlers. Rye were undeterred by the target, as Ross Pierce 40 and Tom Oneill 32 hit 90 off the first 10 overs, then David Jempson 59, Johnny Broad 22 kept the score moving along, to allow the 8th wicket of James Jury 42 no and Anthony Bradnum 45 no to see the thirds home by 2 wickets with 8 balls to spare.

This Saturday battle re-commences as Rye 3rds host Westfield 2nds at Icklesham.

At the Salts, Rye 2nds hosted division leaders Newhaven 1sts in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. Rye batted first and sped to 90-0 off 18 overs when rain interrupted the innings for nearly an hour. Thanks to the covers, Rye resumed the innings and finished on 226-7. Fred Smith 55, Spencer Fielding 50 and Will Wheeler 38 played well, but Rye suffered from the interruption.

When Newhaven batted, the drizzle came and the game continued as the Rye bowlers sought to hold the wet ball. Only Martin Blincow provided control, as Newhaven prospered in the conditions as they passed the 226 target with only 2 wickets down and 5 overs to spare. Orren Wileman 108 no led the way.

This Saturday Rye 1sts host Linfield 1sts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera and the 2nds travel to play Hellingly 1sts.
